Is This the Real Life?

Well, the first day of MMBio241 wasn't so difficult.  In fact, I don't think that class will be too much hassle at all if I just keep up with all the things I need to do.  Cell Bio, on the other hand, will prove to be a ridiculous amount of work...I think I'm going to break 100+ pages of reading within the first week of class.  Luckily, I already knew most of the stuff.  I am dreading the moment when we jump into a topic I've never touched on before...

I started my first day at Dr. Berges's Lab and I learned how to extract human hematopoietic stem cells from cord blood samples!  It's a 3-hour job and I got to know the famed Anne, the Masters student.  I think I got the gist of the technique down and I should be able to do it by myself hopefully within the next 3 weeks or so.  In the meantime, I do plan to observe what other folks are doing to understand the procedures a little better and hopefully make a few new friends.

The lab does involve some rather dangerous pathogens, with Dengue Fever being the scariest one of them all (aside from HIV, hepatitis, malaria, etc...).  Fortunately, I don't have to deal with that right now.  When I do, I will be prepared.  Dr. Berges also showed me how to operate a few equipment around the lab.  It's a flood of information!

Institute was surprisingly well-attended tonight.

I picked up 2 extra hours on Sundays from 2-4pm.  It will be a chill shift for me to accomplish the things I need to do.  That effectively bring up my total hours to 12 regular hours per week.

It's past midnight...and I'm barely starting homework.  This is not gonna end well in the morning...
